Practice design is not as intimidating as one would think. However, for the novice coach, it may be a daunting task. Baseball Zone’s Practice Planner [1] makes it quick and easy. We have a bunch of great drills and formats already in there for you to choose from. Just point, click and print.
Here is a quick template that touches on the most important aspects of a practice for the younger kids:
- Warm Up (10 minutes)
- Throwing (10-15 minutes)
- Individual Skills (30 minutes) 10 Minute Stations
- Ground balls, fly balls, pitching, etc
- Hitting (30 minutes) 10 Minute Stations
- A. Tees, wiffle toss, batting practice, etc
- End With A Game (10 minutes) Optional
- Base running, throwing, hitting, etc
This practice runs between 80-100 minutes. For the more advanced team, you can add team skills (Cutoffs and relays, bunt defense, 1st and 3rd situations, etc).
