Becoming a Good Baserunner Checklist

  1. Runs hard out of the box
  2. Runs out everything hard
  3. Looks for signs
  4. Understands proper running form
  5. Has good footwork
  6. Knows where ball is
  7. Knows how to slide safely
  8. Knows how many outs there are
  9. Runs hard with two outs until the coach stops him
  10. Knows when there is a force play
  11. Knows what to look for from pitchers on pickoff moves
  12. Measures a good leadoff
  13. Doesn't cross feet when leading off
  14. Gets a good secondary lead
  15. Gets a good jump stealing
  16. Knows when to advance to third from second
  17. Knows how and when to score from third on a ground ball
  18. Reads balls in dirt
  19. Freezes on a line drive
  20. Rounds bases well
  21. Can popup slide
  22. Knows when and how to tag up
  23. Knows what side of the base to slide on
  24. Knows where the outfielders are positioned
  25. Knows which outfielders they can run on
  26. Doesn't hesitate
  27. Can read ball off the bat
  28. Takes the extra base
  29. Anticipates
