Indoor Throwing and Arm Strengthening

For teams that are practicing indoors, it is important to continue to strengthen the players’ arms. If there is not enough room to throw long or you are faced with a poorly lit facility, you may have to be inventive. You can still utilize this indoor time to gain arm strength. You want to have your players’ arms game ready by your first game.
A great drill is to grab a bucket of balls and have the players throw into a net. Back the kids up at least 30’-50’ away from a net and have them throw into it. If you split the team into two groups, give them each 10-12 throws. Always remember to have them (or a coach) pick a target to throw at. That way they are not just throwing to throw, they are throwing with a purpose. This gives the kids a way to throw with some velocity without the worry of kids missing balls and getting hurt.
